ROSEBURG, Ore. — Family, friends, and community members gathered in memory of Shane Belleci who recently passed away.

Belleci leaves behind many people who had known him his entire life, having grown up in Days Creek and Canyonville. Belleci is survived by his two children and their mother, who organized the celebration of life with Shane's brother and other close family and friends.

During speeches at the celebration, many remarked on the caring, intelligent, selfless, and fearless qualities of Belleci. Close friends and family recognized the difficult life path Shane ended up on after growing up in troubled conditions. While he struggled to recover, some shared that he recently expressed wanting to get help, and that over the years he had pushed multiple of his friends toward recovery. Many remarked how safe he made them feel, and how he often helped them or others in times of need.

Most recently, Belleci resided at The Point, where many people experiencing homelessness in Roseburg tend to gather to live outside together. Late one night Belleci suffered a stab wound, and was transported to Mercy Hospital where we was pronounced deceased.

Belleci's family is currently not organizing any fundraisers, and asked online for the public to not set up anything for them, or contribute to any that are created in Belleci's name. The family also asks the public to be cautious in what they express about Shane if they never knew him personally.
